Lexington Park, MD — The three-day War Cry 2015 culminated Saturday, Aug. 29 with a Soul March down Great Mills Road and day-long activities at St. Mary’s Square in Lexington Park.
War Cry 2015 continued an initiative by Dominion Apostolic Ministries Pastor Michael Barber two years ago that also included a march. But the second War Cry was expanded to include special services, a gospel concert and basic training aimed at returning the community to its law-abiding, God-fearing citizens.
War Cry 2015 was billed as “Uniting Our Community…One Voce, One Song.” Judging from thje large crowd assembled at St. Mary’s Square at the beginning of the march, the effort was successful.
Event Coordinator Corey Dyson enthusiastically prepared the crowd for the march with prayer. And Pastor Barber then asked the law enforcement representatives in attendance to line up; then the rest of the crowd joined in an assembly line shaking of hands, hugging and thanking them for protecting the community. St. Mary’s County Sheriff Tim Cameron was among those in the line.
Also before the march a state police helicopter landed on the shopping center parking lot.
With a police escort from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office and Maryland State Police. the Soul March then proceeded down one lane of Great Mills Road to McKay’s Plaza where prayers were said for the community and buses shuttled everyone back to St. Mary’s Square. State Senator Steve Waugh [R – 29th District] walked the entire distance.
Back at St. Mary’s Square the day’s events included assisting the unemployed and homeless, aiding victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, help for those suffering from depression, safety demonstrations, music, food and other vendors.
