California, MD – Members of Class IX, 2015-2016 LEAD Maryland, visited the Marlay Taylor Water Reclamation Facility on Wednesday, June 8 for a facilities tour. Discussion during the tour focused on the ENR (Enhanced Nutrient Removal), construction upgrades currently underway at the facility.

DuWayne Potter, Wastewater Treatment Superintendent, provided the tour. The ENR upgrade is a result of a state-mandated program initiated to reduce nitrogen and phosphorus discharges into the Chesapeake Bay. The design upgrade will meet low nitrogen and phosphorus discharge requirements and include new sludge storage facilities, and a fats, oils and grease (FOG) receiving station. Funding in part for the $39 million dollar project was provided by money collected from the Chesapeake Bay Restoration Fund.

Marlay Taylor is the largest treatment facility operated by MetCom with an average daily flow of approximately 4.2 million gallons. The facility serves Lexington Park, Patuxent Naval Air Station, Great Mills, California, as well as the St. George Island, Piney Point, Callaway and St. Maryโ€™s College areas.ย ย
