George Patrick Winchester, 71, of Hollywood, MD passed away peacefully on January 26, 2021 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family and pets.

He was born on February 13, 1949 in the Manayunk neighborhood of Philadelphia, PA to the late George John Winchester and Helen Dougherty Winchester. He was the second of four children; growing up with his three sisters.

After graduating from Roman Catholic High School, George attended Drexel University for a short time before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force and proudly serving his country as an aircraft mechanic in Vietnam from 1968 to his honorable discharge in 1972. He then dedicated over 30 years to the Department of Navy, skillfully managing Navy Logistics and Acquisition programs. He received the Department’s Meritorious Civilian Service Medal for his significant contributions and quality of service.

On October 8, 1988, he married his beloved wife and best friend whom he called his “rock,” Katherine “Kathy” Wentworth Winchester, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Leonardtown, MD. Together they celebrated over 32 wonderful years of marriage.

In addition to his wife, George is also survived by his cherished daughters, Patricia Lorraine Winchester of Hollywood, MD and Kaitlin Ann Winchester of Hollywood, MD; his siblings, Rosemary Jefferys (Joe) of Oreland, PA and Catherine Tims of Bluebell, PA; his many nieces & nephews including: Nicole Mancini-Albert, Doreen Schmidt, Patrick Jefferys, Marybeth DePhillips, Rebecca “Becka” Harvell; his godson, Matthew Wentworth; and numerous extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and youngest sister, Patricia Jane Winchester. His family rests easier knowing that he and his sister Patricia are throwing a great party together again.

George loved nothing more than spending time with his wife and daughters, who were brought back together under the same roof at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. He was caring and thoughtful, always putting his love for his family at the forefront of his mind while fighting his illness.

He enjoyed sitting with his wife Kathy on their porch overlooking Hickory Landing Creek, often completing a crossword puzzle (in pen) or reading a new book. George enjoyed some mostly friendly competition with his eldest daughter, Patricia, over whom could answer Jeopardy questions the fastest and making eye-rolling jokes with his youngest daughter, Kaitlin. He was always his family’s biggest cheerleader through thick and thin, even when a house full of strong-willed women tested his patience. George also loved to cook for his family, two of his specialties being his hometown Philly cheesesteaks or steak grilled to the perfect medium rare. He had a sweet tooth and enjoyed his family’s homemade baked goods, including the Winchester family’s Irish Currant bread.

Family will receive friends socially distanced on Monday, February 1, 2021 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 11:00 a.m. by Reverend Rory Conley at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 22800 Washington Street, Leonardtown, MD 20650.
