John Thomas George, 89, of Solomons, MD formerly of Whittier Street, N.W., Washington, DC died on April 15, 2003 at his residence.

He was born on February 24, 1914 in Washington, DC, the son of the late Joseph Sherman and Anna Read Conklin George.

Mr. George was a graduate of McKinley Tech High School, Washington, DC. He served his country in the United States Army from 1943-1946 in the 279th Engineer Combat Battalion in WWII. He was a member of the Metropolitan Society of Model Engineers, in Washington, DC. His hobbies included, photography, traveling, reading, crosswords and his favorite being model trains. He retired from AAA as a travel agent.

A son Stanley C. George and wife Linda of King George, VA, two grandchildren, Timothy A. George of Virginia Beach, VA and Jennifer L. Gray and husband Jason of Jacksonville, NC survive him. His wife Mabel Aurelia Carter George preceded him in death on April 26, 1996, whom he married in Washington, DC on June 28, 1941.

Friends may call on Saturday April 19, 2003 from 10:30 am until 11:30 am at the Asbury-Solomons Continuing Care Retirement Community, 11100 Asbury Circle, Solomons, MD. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:30 am. The Chaplain David Showers will officiate. Interment will follow at the Cedar Hill Cemetery, Suitland, MD.
