Joyce Mae “Nanny” Blackwell, 63, of Piney Point, MD died August 25, 2007 in Georgetown University Hospital. Born January 19, 1944 on St. George’s Island, MD she was the daughter of Catherine N. Blackwell Travers of Piney Point, MD. She is survived by her children; Judy M. Moore of Lexington Park, MD and William X. Blackwell of Washington, DC; siblings, William F. and Robert H. Blackwell, both of Piney Point, MD, Ronald J. Blackwell of Great Mills, MD and John Wooten of Waldorf, MD. She is also survived by six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Her sister Evangeline Blackwell preceded her in death. A lifelong resident of St. Mary’s County, Nanny attended Jarboeville School and was employed with Harry Lundberg School of Seamanship. The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 1, 2007 from 9:00 – 10:00 AM in St. Luke’s U.A.M.E. Church, Piney Point, MD where a funeral service will be at 10:00 AM with Reverend Rudy Brooks officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be James Thompson, Sterling Green, Charles Lawrence, John Clayton, Ralph Clayton Jr., and Darnell Mason.
