Reno, NV — National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE) St. Maryโs Chapter 969, board members attended the National NARFE Convention in Reno, Nevada Aug. 29-Swept. 1.ย NARFE, established in 1921, is the largest association of federal employees and retirees and is dedicated to protecting earned federal benefits and opposing legislation contrary to their interests.ย The delegates supported a change to the by-laws for optional chapter membership and to give each member an opportunity to vote, โone member, one voteโ.
Speaker highlights included: John OโBrien, Office of Personnel Management, who spoke about online improvements and the increases planned for Long Term Health Care Insurance; U.S. Representatives, Dana Titus [D: NV], who called herself โyour partner in Congressโ and Michelle Lujan Grisham [D: NM], also a member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee), who also pledged her continued support for NARFE legislative issues.
NARFEโs Legislative Program for the 115th Congress was approved and will be detailed in the January NARFE magazine.ย Richard Thissen, President and Jon Dowie, Secretary/Treasurer were both reelected during the convention.
