Pat White to start Thursday for Redskins, as cuts continue!!!
Hello Sports Fans, I’m Buddy Long. And this is the Wednesday August 28th edition of Southern Maryland Sports.
Washington Redskins: Pat White to get pre season start. Could play entire game
While his numbers have been decent in the first 3 pre season games this season, it’s hard to get the playing time you want when you’re #4 on the depth chart as a Washington Redskin Quarterback. However, this Thursday, as the Redskins prepare for their final pre season game of the season against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium, former West Virginia star Pat White will not only get the start, but may play the entire game if all goes well health wise. Both Rex Grossman and White saw more extensive playing time last Saturday due to the foot injury of Kirk Cousins. But this weeks start will not only afford White the chance to showcase his talents for the team, but all other NFL teams in the event the reserve QB can’t win a roster spot in the crowded backfield position.
Speaking of roster cuts, the Redskins continued to trim things down Tuesday, waiving LB Roddrick Muccelroy and CB Ryan Mouton. The team also terminated the contract of Offensive Lineman Jeremy Trueblood, and reached an injury settlement with offensive lineman Jacob Ashworth. In the final move, the team also placed defensive end Adam Karriker on the reserve personally unable to perform list. All NFL teams will be required to get down to the 53man limit by 6pm Saturday evening.
RGIII to get recommendation by doctors on Thursday:
While the Redskins are in Florida Thursday for their final pre season game against Tampa Bay, the bigger story may be the dialogue between Dr. James Andrews, the surgeon who repaired the ligaments for Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III, and the team, to determine the course of the star QB’s future.
Andrews cleared Griffin for practice before the start of training camp, but has yet to give him the okay to play in games. Andrews examined Griffin before the Aug 19 home preseason game against Pittsburgh, and felt very good about Griffins progress. Thursday will be a big day in determining the direction for the Redskins in their September 9th season opener at FedEx Field against Philadelphia.
Baltimore Ravens:
The Baltimore Ravens continued to trim their roster down on Tuesday as well, placing linebacker Jameel McClain on the reserve personally unable to perform list. The team will be in action Thursday at the St. Louis Rams for their final pre season game of the year before prepping for their season opener at the Denver Broncos.
