Washington Redskins: Skins rout Tampa Bay in final pre season game!!!

The final pre season matchup of the year for the Washington Redskins for many may have been the most entertaining as the reserves played and fought for a spot on the final 53 man roster. And the decisions for head coach Mike Shanahan will not be easy. Chris Thompson, fighting for a spot in a crowded backfield, took full advantage of the unfortunate season ending knee injury to Richard Crawford a week ago by returning a punt 69 yards for a touchdown in the first half, just one of the many contributions by reserves as the Redskins topped the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 30-12 at Raymond James Stadium. Pat White, also fighting for a roster spot in a crowded quarterback position, played the entire game, going 13-22 for 181 yards and 1 interception. Evan Royster, also competing for a running backs job, had a nice outing, getting 11 rushes for 59 yards, including a 1 yard scamper early in the game.

The Redskins finish the pre season at 4-0 for the first time since 1985. All eyes are now focused on Monday Night September 9th when play begins for real against the Philadelphia Eagles at Fed Ex Field. ย ย

RGIII Update:

Following the Redskins win over Tampa Bay, all thoughts immediately were on the decision by Dr. James Andrews, the surgeon who repaired the ligaments in the knee of the star quarterback back in January. Addressing the media after the game, Redskins coach Mike Shanahan stated that Andrews had cleared Griffin to play on Monday night against the Philadelphia Eagles. However, Andrews DOES still have a couple concerns. Shanahan stated he would address those concerns with Griffin over the weekend with an update coming on the status of a starting quarterback Monday.

Baltimore Ravens: Rams Subs pull off come from behind win over Ravens Subs 24-21

Much like the Redskins, the Baltimore Ravens used the bulk of their reserves in a continued fact finding mission Thursday Night to determine the remainder of their roster. Starters Joe Flacco and Ray Rice did not even make the trip to the Edward Jones Dome, as the St Louis Rams used a come from behind series to defeat the Ravens 24-21 in the final pre season matchup of the year. Baltimore will take to the field first next Thursday to open the NFL football season on the road against the Denver Broncos. The game, originally scheduled to be played at M&T Bank Stadium, had to be moved due to a scheduling conflict with the neighboring Baltimore Orioles, who have a home series with the Chicago White Sox at the same time.
