Gary Roger Williams III

Prince Frederick, MD โ€“ A Calvert County man described by local police as a known drug dealer is facing a two-count indictment on felony drug charges. According to documents on file in the Maryland court system, Gary Roger Williams III, 27 of Dowell, was indicted Aug. 15 in Calvert County Circuit Court. The indictment charges Williams with single counts of controlled dangerous substance (CDS) possession with intent to distribute and CDS distribution. The offenses are alleged to have occurred May 4.

According to an investigatorโ€™s statement of probable cause, Williams used the name of a man who authorities believe died from an overdose the previous month to obtain the drugs.

The statement in court documents, submitted by a Calvert County Sheriffโ€™s Office undercover detective, indicated the apprehension of Williams started when the officer was conducting surveillance during the morning hours of May 4 outside the defendantโ€™s home. The detective noted in the statement that Williams was facing two โ€œcurrent open indictments for conspiracy to distribute CDS.โ€

During the surveillance a Ford 500 pulled into the driveway of Williamsโ€™ residence, several people got out and soon the vehicle left the residence, subsequently turning left on H.G. Trueman Road. Police then began a โ€œmobile surveillance,โ€ according to the detective. The vehicle traveled into a shopping center parking lot, where a male exited. The vehicle exited the parking lot and headed south. After making a loop on Solomons Island the vehicle headed north and was subsequently stopped by deputies on H.G. Trueman Road.

โ€œDuring the traffic stop I was advised a prescription bottle was located in the glove box of the vehicle when the driver opened the glove box to retrieve his vehicle registration,โ€ the detective stated. The bottle contained Alprazolam, a Schedule IV controlled substance. A search of Williams subsequently revealed an identification (ID) card for the Alprazolam prescriber listed on the bottle.

โ€œWilliams told Dfc. Holt the prescription and ID card belong to his brother who had left the items in the vehicle a few days ago,โ€ the documents stated.

An investigation revealed the identification card belonged to a man who was the subject of a Maryland State Police overdose death investigation. That man was found unconscious at Williamsโ€™ residence April 15. The unconscious man was transported to Calvert Memorial Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
According to the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office, the prescription had been filled in Waldorf May 4. โ€œThe bottle was filled with 90 Alprazolam pills,โ€ court documents stated.ย

Williams is scheduled for a pretrial hearing on the indictment counts Sept. 15 in Calvert Circuit Court. According to online court records, he is being represented by attorney Cynthia S. Panos.
