Chicago Garfield Long
Prince Frederick, MD –ย A Calvert County man has been indicted in connection with a domestic assault that occurred last month at his home in Lusby, court documents stated.
The defendant, identified as Chicago Garfield Long, 30, was indicted May 16 by a Calvert Circuit Court grand jury. Long is charged on three countsโfirst-degree assault, second-degree assault and committing a crime of violence with a minor present. The first-degree assault charge is a felony.
According to a statement of probable cause filed in District Court April 15 by Cpl. M. McCarroll of the Calvert County Sheriffโs Office, deputies were dispatched to Longโs residence shortly before 8 a.m. for a reported domestic disturbance. An adult female victim told McCarroll that a โverbal altercationโ that began several days prior โescalated to a physical assault on her,โ McCarroll stated. The victim reported Long had been โacting paranoidโ and declared he had been โseeing people that are after him outside the home.โ Being told no one was outside the home appeared to enrage Long, who allegedly grabbed the victim, threw her against a wall, attempting to strangle her and verbally threatening to kill her. The victim alleged Long later threatened her with a knife.
The next morning the victim told Long he would have to leave the house, prompting more violent behavior by the accused. It also prompted a call to police.
McCarroll stated in court papers that the victim โhad multiple head/face contusions, some lacerations to the neck/face and her left eye was severely swollen and shut.โ
The victim refused transport to hospital and was treated at the scene by Emergency Medical Services.
McCarroll also interviewed two juveniles who witnesses the physical altercation and confirmed the victimโs story. Long was subsequently apprehended a short distance from the home where the incident took place. McCarroll stated that Long confirmed with another deputy that a fight had occurred in the home.
According to court documents, Long is currently incarcerated at the Calvert County Detention Center. His next court hearing is tentatively scheduled for June 27 in Circuit Court.
