Samuel Sherrod Greene Jr.,

Prince Frederick, MD –ย A 12-count indictment was handed down July 18 against a Calvert County man for an incident that occurred June 16, court documents stated.

The accused is identified by police as Samuel Sherrod Greene Jr., 22 of Sunderland. Among the counts is a single charge of first-degree attempted murder.

Other counts include single counts of first-degree assault, theft less than $1,000; malicious destruction of property less than $1,000; four counts of reckless endangerment, two counts of firearm use in commission of a felony/violent crime plus two other weapons violations.

According to a report filed in District Court by Detective Meghan Quinn of the Calvert County Sheriffโ€™s Office, police were summoned to a home on Tranquil Court in Prince Frederick for a โ€œfirearms complaintโ€ June 16 shortly after 1 a.m.ย

A female resident told police โ€œthat someone just shot at her home,โ€ Quinn reported. The woman stated that between 12:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. โ€œshe heard her grandson come up to his room.โ€

That was followed by the sounds of gunshots coming from the back of the house. Several nearby residents also reported hearing the gunfire.

Police then spoke with the womanโ€™s grandson, who told investigators โ€œthere has been an ongoing issue with a male by the name of Samuel Greene.โ€

According to court documents, the ongoing dispute might be related to the young manโ€™s friendship with the woman who is the mother of Greeneโ€™s two children, police stated.

The woman was at the house watching a movie with the young male resident when the shooting occurred.

The young man told police he went towards the window to investigate a noise coming from the backyard. โ€œHe observed โ€˜bullets coming toward his face,โ€™ ” Quinn stated.

Later, police were shown evidence that shots were fired at a window and bedroom ceiling.

As police delved further into the case, the apparent targets of the shooting incident confirmed that Greene appeared to be jealous of the relationship the mother of his children had started with the young man.

Days before the shooting incident, Greene sent a text to the woman stating โ€œhe was going to killโ€ the young man โ€œbecause he was getting in between his family,โ€ Quinn reported in court documents.

Court statements also documented several incidents that culminated in the June 16 shooting. They included a domestic incident at the femaleโ€™s Chesapeake Beach residence on April 17, another shooting incident June in the area of Tranquil Court and a report that Greene may have been stalking the woman at her place of work, Calvert Memorial Hospital.

Following the June 16 shooting incident, members of the Calvert County Sheriffโ€™s Officeโ€™s Special Operations Team โ€œclosed in on Greeneโ€™s locationโ€ at a residence on Paris Oaks Road in Owings.

Greene attempted to flee the residence by was captured after a brief foot chase. A search of the residence by police yielded a fully-loaded Smith and Wesson handgun.

โ€œGreene denied any part of the shooting,โ€ Quinn stated.

Greene remains at the Calvert County Detention Center. His initial appearance in Calvert County Circuit Court was July 20. A pre-trial hearing is tentatively set for Aug. 22.
