Charles County, MD – Members of the Charles County Sheriffโ€™s Office Traffic Operations Unit, in partnership with allied law enforcement agencies including the Montgomery County Police Department, Calvert County Sheriffโ€™s Office, La Plata Police Department, Natural Resources Police, Maryland Department of Transportation Police, Maryland State Police and the Maryland Highway Safety Office, will conduct a sobriety checkpoint on Wednesday, December 16.

This checkpoint will be dedicated to honor the mission and memory of Officer Noah Leotta of the Montgomery County Police Department, who died on Dec. 10 as a result of injuries he sustained after being struck by an impaired driver on Dec. 3 during a special holiday patrol he was working focused on impaired driving.ย 

Sheriff Troy D. Berry and members of the Traffic Operations Unit will welcomeย  participating officers during a briefing starting at 6 p.m. at the Charles County Sheriffโ€™s Office Waldorf Station, 3670 Leonardtown Road, Waldorf, MD. The checkpoint will follow at an undisclosed location.

A large photo of Officer Leotta will be displayed at the checkpoint to serve as a reminder of the consequences impaired driving can have on a community.
