Waldorf, MD – Sports Authority stores in Columbia and Waldorf will close as part of the company’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization filed Wednesday.

Saddled with debt and unable to upgrade its stores, the sporting goods retailer said it plans to close or sell about 140 stores, nearly a third of the chain, along with distribution centers in Chicago and Denver. The specific stores to be closed or sold will be determined as part of the Chapter 11 process, a spokesman said.
