Hollywood, MD –ย ย On Sept. 5 the St. Mary’s County Kiwanis Club, along with many volunteers honored the individuals who lost their lives Sept. 11, 2001 when terrorists attacked America. The simple tribute involved local residents ย placing American flags along the roadside.

ย A sign stating “We Remember 09/11/2001” sits along ย Route 235 South, on the Hollywood Volunteer Fire Department lawn.ย 

The terrorist attacks occurred in New York City and Washington, DC. A group of militants associated with al-Qaeda hijacked four commercial airliners. Two planes were flown into the towers of the World Trade Center. A third plane hit the Pentagon. A fourth plane crashed into a field in Pennsylvania. Over 3,000 people died as a result of the attacks. The dead included 400 police and firefighters.

This year marks the 14th anniversary of the attacks.
