Lusby, MD โ The fifth annual Lusby Tree Lighting Ceremony was held Sunday evening, Dec. 7 at the Lusby Commons Shopping Center. The tree on the southeastern area of the shopping centerโunder a lighthouse replicaโwas all aglow when Santa and Mrs. Claus arrived aboard a Solomons Volunteer Rescue Squad and Fire Department (Company 3) truck.
Nance Pretto Simmons, the president of the Lusby Business Association, stated in a press release that the brief holiday event gives the south county townโs businesses โan opportunity to demonstrate our continued commitment to the community we serve.โ
In addition to the business association and Company 3, the event is sponsored by the SYB Optimist Club.ย Additionally, youth involved with the New Direction Community Theater sang Christmas carols while children and parents made their way through the line to see the Clauses. To quell the chill, hot cocoa was served.
Santa Claus announced at the eventโs start that the eveningโs festivities were being conducted as a tribute to young Calvert resident Dalton Ford, who died earlier this month.
Simmons said the tree will be on display through Jan. 1.
