HUGHESVILLE, Md. – A house fire caused major damage to a Hughesville man’s car port and vehicle, Monday night.
On July 30, 10:15 p.m., 59 firefighters led by the Hughesville VFD responded to the 6100 block of Nubian Place, Hughesville for the report of a house fire. Upon arrival, crews discovered the homeowner’s home, carport and vehicle on fire. Within half and hour, crews had the fire under control with no injuries reported and the cost of damage totaling $110,000.
Additional investigation revealed the homeowner was in his living room when he smelled smoke and went to investigate. Upon looking out of his kitchen door leading to the carport, he encountered flames and smoke. The homeowner was able to escape safely and is being assisted by the American Red Cross. The fire was deemed to be accidental.
