
Leonardtown, MD— On March.18, Maryland State Police Trooper Christopher Ditoto responded to Washington Street in Leonardtown, for a report of a person attempting to pass counterfeit money at the Burch Mart store.ย
When Ditoto arrived on the scene, he made contact with an employee at the Burch Mart. The employee stated, “That suspect Jeffery T. Adams, 65, of Prince Frederick, was attempting to buy pizza and a pack of cigarettes with a $50 bill. The employee advised she used a counterfeit pen to test the money and noticed the pen initiated the bill was counterfeit,” according to charging documents.ย
The employee stated that Adams gave her (employee) a second $50 bill that was also determined to be fraudulent. Adams advised, “that he received the money from a friend,” according to charging documents.ย
Adams advised to Ditoto that he sold a set of four tires for $150 and that he received three 50 dollar bills. Adams also stated,”that he was selling some ‘hot shit.’ Adams would not advise what exactly he meant by ‘hot shit,’ ” according to charging documents.ย
Adams was taken into custody and transported to the St.Mary’s County Detention Center. Adams was charged with possession/issue of forged currency. Adams at this time does not have a scheduled court date.ย
Adams faces a maximum jail sentence of three years and/or a maximum fine of $1,000.ย
