California, MD — A group home resident has been charged with attempting to poison his roommate. The accused, Alvernon Brown Jr., 22, and the alleged victim are residents of a Pathways group home on North Patuxent Beach Road in California.

According to charging documents filed by St. Maryโ€™s County Sheriffโ€™s Department Deputy Thomas Seyfried, โ€œThe victim stated he went to get a drink and poured some of his Almond Breeze milk into a glass. The victim stated as he went to drink from the glass he noticed the beverage smelled but continued to place the glass to his lips. The victim advised he then started to take a drink, but as soon as he tasted the milk, he immediately spit it out. The victim advised he did not believe he ingested any and rinsed his mouth out with water soon after. The victim then advised he then asked the other subjects in the house if they knew anything about the milk and the victimโ€™s roommate, defendant Alvernon NMN Brown, Jr. advised he had poured bleach in the victimโ€™s milk.โ€

Deputy Seyfried reported that Brown admitted to him to pouring bleach in the milk. The alleged incident occurred March 21 and a summons for Brownโ€™s arrest was issued on April 19.

According to Deputy Seyfried, the Pathway group home is a place โ€œwhere patients under their care reside in a loosely monitored environment.โ€

In addition to the attempted poisoning charge, Brown was also charged with contaminating/poisoning food or drink and malicious destruction of property.
