Upper Marlboro, MD —ย Tyrone General,ย of New Carrollton, is facing up to a 50-year sentence for shooting a father holding his infant son.
He was convicted of first degree assault, second degree assault, reckless endangerment, use of a handgun and related charges for shooting Ian Reid.ย Sentencing for is set for November 1,
The shooting happened back in May of 2017. Officers responding to a report of a custody dispute found Ian Reid lying on the ground bleeding from a gunshot wound to the neck while General attempted to apply pressure to the wound.
Reid was there to pick up his children from their mother, with whom he shared custody. When Reid and the childrens’ mother began to argue, he tried to leave carrying his nine-month-old son.
Reid identified General, 69, as the shooter and General later admitted shooting Reid while he held the baby.
The victim was on life support and remained hospitalized for two weeks.
