At the scene — The Bay Net photos by Josh Davis and Anna Bedford

Shortly after 5 p.m. today a man was reportedly shot numerous timesย in a Solomon’s Island parking lot, then dragged and left for dead by his assailants.

Calvert County Sheriff’s Office deputies andย Maryland State Police troopers were on the scene with aย K-9 team, but refused toย release any details when questioned byย The Bay Net.

Witnesses said an African-American man, about 23-years-old, reportedly from Fort Washington, was shot as many as seven times while inside a red truck in the parking lot for the 7-11 store and Mercantile Bank.

Officers on the scene were revealing little. When asked by The Bay Net to confirm that a man had been shot, an officer replied, “possibly.” One officer confirmed that a victim had been airlifted from the scene, which was quickly taped-off.

Witnesses and local store employees were advised not to discuss the incident, but were also told to remain at the scene to await the arrival of investigators.

According to one of the witnesses at the scene, an African American man was shot inside the red truck and then pulled out of it by a young thin man who was “no more than 130 lbs,” and thrown onto the concrete.

According to the witness the man’s leg was still inside the truck and he was dragged a short distance along the ground after he was shot.

One witness said she did not see the shooting itself, but saw the man being pulled from the truck after being shot. She also said another person at the scene witnessed the whole event and even recorded the license plate of the red truck.

According to a witness, the young man who pulled the victim from the truck then jumped into the back of the vehicle as it began to speed off – for a while dragging the shot man with it. The witness said she also believed that once the victim was pulled from the car it was the passenger who took over the wheel to speed off, and possibly the initial driver who pulled the shot man out and jumped into the back of the truck.

“He was very thin. I don’t know if he was black or white, but he was covered in blood,” said one witness, of the man who exited the truck to unload the victim.

A couple of other bystanders said they believed there were seven shots fired inside the truck. “It’s broad daylight!” exclaimed one witness.

When The Bay Net asked a second officer to confirm that a man was shot inside a truck and then dumped in the parking lot he said, “That’s what we’re hearing.”

The statements from witnesses on the scene have not yet been confirmed. The Bay Net will report more details as they become available.
