At 12:37 a.m. Sept. 7, Charles County Sheriffโ€™s Officer A. Celia stopped a Ford Explorer on Wakefield Circle near Hackney Lane in Waldorf.

After identifying the driver, he attempted to identify the passenger but the passenger could only provide a name and did not produce photo identification. The name the passenger initially provided was found to be false.

Officer Celia used the computer in his patrol car to identify the passenger as Johnathan Adrian Marshall, 36, of Waldorf and discovered Marshall had outstanding warrants for unlawful use of a motor vehicle, two counts of theft valued at less than $500 and two counts of failure to appear in court.

Officer Celia and Officer T. Yates returned to the Explorer and ordered Marshall out of the SUV. As Marshall exited the vehicle, he pushed past the officers and a brief struggle ensued.

Marshall struck both officers numerous times and attempted to disarm Officer Yates. In order to gain control of the situation, Officer Celia deployed his taser and Marshall was immobilized and arrested.

Marshall was charged with assaulting a police officer, attempting to disarm a police officer, resisting arrest and giving a false statement to a police officer in addition to being served the warrants. He was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner. The officers were not injured.
