On Nov. 27 at 11:37 a.m., officers responded to Sam’s Club at 2365 Crain Highway in Waldorf for the report of suspicious activity.
The suspect, Nathaniel Adel Stewart, 44 of Fairmont Heights, attempted to purchase over $8,000 in Newport cigarettes with a counterfeit check. Upon arrival, officers determined the bank in which the check was drawn did not exist and the check was fraudulent. Further investigation revealed evidence the suspect was using counterfeit checks at numerous businesses in the area.
Stewart was arrested and charged with issuing a counterfeit check.
