Hollywood, MD— On May 11, Maryland State Police Trooper Manning responded to McIntosh Road in Hollywood for a reported disturbance by someone with a knife.ย
When Manning arrived on the scene, contact was made with the victim. The victim advised she was laying down in her bedroom, watching a movie with her friend.
The victim’s ex-boyfriend, who was identified as Paul A. Stamey, 37, of Hollywood, forced entry through the front door of the residence and walked into her bedroom.ย
The victim told police that “Stamey had a knife, grabbed her by the throat and attempted to stab her,” according to charging documents. The victim stated she backed up into her bathroom corner when Stamey tried to stab her again.ย
Another victim, attempting to help stop Stamey, grabbed Stamey’s arm. The victim advised that while Stamey was attempting to stab her, he stated, “I’m not afraid to go to jail. I’m ready to die,” according to charging documents.ย
Stamey saw that one of the victims was talking to a police dispatch employee on the phone and ran out of the residence through the front door before police arrived.ย
Stamey has been charged with two counts of first-degree assault, home invasion and two counts of second-degree assault.ย
Stamey has a tentativeย preliminary hearing scheduled for July 7 at the St. Mary’s County District Courthouse. Stamey faces a maximum jail sentence ofย 95 years and/or a maximum fine of $5,000.
