California, MD— On Dec.15 2015, St.Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Matthew Rodgers responded to Miramar Way in California for a report of a theft in progress.
Rodgers made contact with the loss prevention officer who stated he observed the defendant, Terrance E. Pratt, 35, of Washington DC, steal items from Walmart.
The loss prevention officer reported he “observed the defendant select a prepay cell phone and carry it to the home goods section. Pratt used a pocket knife and removed the cell phone from the package and concealed in his pocket,” according to charging documents.
Pratt was detained and the stolen items having a value of $131.88 of US Currency were located in his (Pratt) front left the pocket. Pratt was escorted back to the office where he was positive identified by his Washington, DC identification card.
Pratt was arrested and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center where he was issued a criminal citation and released.
Pratt was sentenced March 1 to two days in the St. Mary’s County Detention Center and was ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $131.88.
