Lexington Park, MD— On March 1, St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Dale Smith responded to a disturbance located at Hilton Drive in Lexington Park.ย 

When Smith arrived on the scene, he made contact with the victim, who advised the defendant, Kevin V. Bonds, 46, of Lexington Park, was burning a box and causing other damages.ย 

When units arrived they spoke with Bonds, who advised, “he was in an argument with the victim. He admitted to setting a box on fire inside the residence. He further advised the victim had to put the fireย out,” according to charging documents.ย 

It was also discovered that Bonds had hammered a nail into the deadbolt key opening to prevent the victim from gaining entry.ย 

Bonds was arrested and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center. Bonds was charged with arson first-degree, malicious burningย second-degree and malicious destruction of property less than $1,000.ย 

Bonds has a court date scheduled for March 18 at the St. Mary’s County District Court. Bonds faces a maximum jail sentence of 31 years and four months and/or a maximum fine of $51,000.ย
