Lusby, MD – A Calvert County man faces assault and child abuse charges stemming from an incident at a residence Dec. 23, documents on file in District Court stated. The accused, Parker Douglas McCarty, 52 of Lusby, was arrested by Calvert County Sheriffโ€™s Office deputies following an investigation at the residence on El Segundo Lane in Lusby.

According to the statement of charges filed by Deputy Vincent Oโ€™Donnell, officers arrived at the location of a reported domestic assault shortly before 9 p.m. โ€œMr. McCarty saw me arrive and walked out of the front door with his hands in the air,โ€ Oโ€™Donnell stated.

An adult female told deputies that she had been โ€œarguing with Mr. Carty over illegal drugsโ€ and the defendant โ€œbecame irate and began throwing items off the table all over the house.โ€ During the fracas McCarty allegedly a female teenager, pushing her up against a wall and wrapping his right hand around the girlโ€™s throat. McCarty is alleged to also have attempted to strangle the adult female at the residence. Emergency Medical Services were called to the scene to examine both females.

โ€œI asked Mr. McCarty what happened and he stated he was drinking and things got a little out of hand,โ€ Oโ€™Donnell stated in court documents. The accused admitted to arguing with the adult female but claimed he did not assault anyone.

โ€œParker McCarty was arrested and was being transported to the Calvert County Detention Center when he asked me to kill him and push him out of the vehicle,โ€ Oโ€™Donnell stated in court documents. โ€œMcCarty was transported to Calvert Memorial Hospital for an emergency evaluation.โ€

Oโ€™Donnell stated that according to protocol, the adult female victim was administered a lethality screening and it was determined she was in a โ€œpossible high danger situation.โ€
McCarty was charged with one count each of first-degree assault and second-degree child abuse; and two counts of second-degree assault. If convicted of all charges McCarty could face 60 years in jail and $5,000 in fines.

A docket summary indicated McCarty is still incarcerated. On Dec. 27 his bond was set at $50,000. A preliminary hearing on the charges is tentatively scheduled for Jan. 18 in District Court. McCarty is being represented by the local Public Defenders Office.
