St. Leonard, MD โ€“ A St. Maryโ€™s County man was killed in Calvert County Saturday morning, Oct. 22 when a tree he was attempting to cut down fell on him, police reported. According to Captain Todd Ireland of the Calvert County Sheriffโ€™s Office, the incident occurred in St. Leonard Shores.

โ€œThe mail courier came upon a tree blocking the roadway,โ€ Ireland reported. โ€œThe mail courier observed a person trapped under the tree and immediately summoned help.โ€

The injured man was identified as Ernesto Cendana, 53 of St. Maryโ€™s County(pictured above, photo courtesy of Brinsfield Funeral Home). Police said the mail courier and homeowner attempted to remove the tree and perform cardio pulmonary resuscitation, however, Cendana succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Several emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene, as were Forensic Investigator Ruslander and Cpl. Anthony Moschetto of the Calvert County Sheriffโ€™s Office. Raymond Wood Funeral Home also responded to the scene.

Cedana, who resided in Great Mills, was a 20-year U.S. Navy veteran who was employed at Patuxent Naval Air Station.
