Prince Frederick, MD – The Maryland Natural Resources Police (NRP) is investigating the death of a Calvert County man whose body was recovered late Sunday afternoon, Feb. 26 near his capsized boat south of a Patuxent River bridge.

Scott Lawson Suder, 41 of Huntingtown (pictured, left), was last seen Saturday, Feb. 25 at about noon, prior to a violent storm that raced through the area. Residents thought they saw something in the river near Sheridan Point just before the storm hit. They called Natural Resources Police Sunday morning, when they spotted the overturned boat in about the same area.

Officers and divers, the Coast Guard, a Maryland State Police helicopter searched the river for most of the day before finding Suder’s body along the shoreline. He was not wearing a life jacket. His 16-foot skiff was recovered in about four feet of water and impounded as evidence.

An autopsy will be conducted Monday, Feb. 27 by the state medical examiner’s office. The investigation is continuing.

Suder, 41 of Hughesville. Suderโ€™s overturned 16-foot skiff was also recovered from the river. An investigation is underway and an autopsy will be performed on Suderโ€™s body to determine the exact cause of death. Suder is believed to have been in the vessel near Sheridan Point Saturday, Feb. 25 when a violent storm blew through the area. Authorities were notified Sunday morning when the vessel was spotted in the same area.
