Lexington Park, MD – A California woman whose son was charged with trespassing and resisting arrest on July 4 during what police described as a large disturbance is disputing investigators’ accounts of the incident.

According to a press release from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office, Cpl. Raddatz responded to the disturbance on Valley Drive in Lexington Park. The police reported several people, mostly juveniles, ran behind the Home 2 Hotel owned by Cherry Cove Development when the officer arrived. Raddatz ordered the individuals off the property and they reportedly complied. However, police reported a short time later “two cars returned with several of the same subjects. They were all ordered again to leave by Cpl. Raddatz. Suspect Curtis Andre Brown Jr., 25 of California exited one of the vehicles and was told to leave,” the press release stated. “Brown refused to leave and was advised he was under arrest. Brown pulled away from Cpl. Raddatz and attempted to flee. Brown’s mother pushed Cpl. Raddatz in an effort to prevent him from arresting Brown.”

Brown was arrested, charged and subsequently released on personal recognizance.

According to court documents, a hearing on the charges is tentatively scheduled for Sept. 10 in District Court.

“He wasn’t a part of that at all,” said Frankie Lynch, Brown’s mother, who told The Bay Net her son was only in the area to pick up his niece and later returned to look for her phone. Lynch also denies shoving Raddatz during the incident that led to her son’s arrest. She claims the officer was the aggressor. “He went right at us,” said Lynch.

The family has found the reporting of Brown’s arrest disturbing. “My son has never been in trouble,” said Lynch. Information online indicates Brown has four traffic violations on his record. All of the cases have been closed.
