Wade J. Braithwaite

Leonardtown, MD— On March 25, Judge David W. Densford of the St. Mary’s County Circuit Court sentenced Wade J. Braithwaite, 22, of Lexington Park to 15 years in the Maryland Department of Corrections for being an accessory after the fact in the murder of Cody Michael Lacey.

St. Mary’s State’s Attorney Richard Fritz (R) stated that both Braithwaite and Rangel, “presented a gangster-style lifestyle.” Fritz went on to say of both Braithwaite and Rangel, “both of them go to a party with that way of life. It’s a recipe for death and death took place.”ย

Densford spoke briefly about the troubled past that Braithwaite’s rap sheet presented. “That’s one of the most sordid and seedy investigations that I (Densford) have ever read.” Braithwaite replied to Densford, “When I had turned 18 I had learned from most of the mistakes.”ย

Densford allowed Braithwaite to address the court before his sentencing in which Braithwaite described the charges as a “victimless crime.”

It should be noted that Alan Michael Rangel is still awaiting sentencing which is scheduled for next month. Also, Demetrius Jose Burks-Jeffery and Amanda Rae Hartman who wereย accessories to this crime have had their charges dropped by county prosecutors.ย
