William Vance Straight
California, MD— On Nov.11, 2015, St.Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Jason Smith responded to Walmart located at Miramar Way in Calfornia for the report of a theft.
Smith made contact with store officials, who had the defendant, William Vance Straight, 35, Hollywood in the loss prevention office. The loss prevention officer advised, “the defendant had worn a pair of brown Dickie work boots past all points of sale then back into the store before being confronted by the loss prevention officer,” according to charging documents.
Straight was identified by his Maryland identification card and was read his Miranda rights. Straight agreed to speak to Smith and advised, “he took the shoes due to needing a new pair for work,” according to charging documents.
The total value of the boots is $68.88.
Straight was sentenced Feb.23, 2016 to 30 days at the St.Mary’s County Detention Center. All but two days of the sentence was suspended.
