Indian Head, MD— On Feb. 4, Charles County Sheriff’s Office Detective J. Elliott responded to Barnett Smith Place in Indian Head for the report of a shooting.
Upon arrival, officers located a 42-year-old male with a single gunshot wound to his back. The victim was flown to a hospital with severe injuries. An investigation revealed that Thomas Michael Smith, 69, of Indian Head, was responsible for the shooting.
According to charging documents, “officers arrived on the scene and found the victim with a gunshot wound to the back. The victim was subsequently transported by helicopter to an area trauma center due to the severity of his injuries.
“The victim was identified as Marc Morrow,” according to the charging documents.
“A witness was located and reported there being a verbal argument with the victim when the defendant told them to stop arguing inside his house. The defendantย then obtained a shotgun and shot the victim one time n the back while the two were standing close to each other in the living room of the house,” according to charging documents.ย
Smith was later interviewed and admitted to “shooting the victim because the victim was arguing with the witness inside his house and they were disrespecting him,” according to charging documents.ย
Smith was arrested and charged with attempted first-degree murder, first and second-degree assault, and reckless endangerment.ย
Smith has a tentative preliminary hearing scheduled for March.4 at Charles County District Court. Smith faces a maximum jail sentence of life and or a maximum fine of $7,500.ย
