George P. Schaffer

California, MD— On March.10, Maryland State Police Trooper Jason Mulhearn was on patrol in his marked patrol vehicleย in the area of ย Alton Lane in California when he observed a subject he recognized as having an arrest warrant through the Maryland State Police (MSP) Leonardtown Barrack.ย 

Corporal Gresko of the MSP attempted to make contact with the subject who, “immediately fled on foot, a short foot pursuit ensued where the subject was detained,” according to charging documents.ย 

The subject was identified as George Preston Schaffer, 35 of Mechanicsville. A search incident to arrest revealed Schaffer had a “blue pill bottle in his left front pocket of his jeans. The blue pill bottle was filled with three whole orange pills and three pieces of a whole orange pill,” according to charging documents.ย 

Poison control was contacted and the orange pills were confirmed to be Suboxone 8mg, a schedule three narcotic.ย 

Schaffer was transported to the St.Mary’s County Detention Center where he was charged with trespassing on private property and CDS possession-not marijuana.ย 

Schaffer has a scheduled court date May 12 at the St.Mary’s County District Court.

Schaffer faces a maximum jail sentence of four years and or a maximum fine of $25,000.ย
