On Nov. 16, Dr. Michael Martirano, Superintendent of St. Maryโ€™s County Public Schools, presented the first-ever โ€œState of the School Systemโ€ address at the JT. Daugherty Conference Center in Lexington Park.

Sponsored by the St. Maryโ€™s County Chamber of Commerce, the event featured Martirano’s presentation on the current status of the school system and the challenges ahead.

โ€œOur successes are abundant and true โ€ฆ and we have much to be proud of โ€ฆ but we realize we have much still to do though,โ€ Martirano said during his remarks.

Martirano talked about parent involvement in student success and recent strides to bring teacher and other employee salaries up to competitive levels so workers are not lost to Calvert and Charles counties.
