Maryland Governor Martin OโMalley proclaimed Monday, February 1, 2010, a statewide day of celebration in honor of the St. Maryโs College of Marylandย Sailing Team.
The 28-member team comes from 14 states and four foreign countries. The Governor presented the SMCM Sailing Team with a proclamation honoring its 2009 Collegiate National Championship victory yesterday in the Governorโs Reception Room of the Maryland State House in Annapolis.

On June 3, 2009, SMCM won the 2009 ICSA/GILL Co-ed Dinghy National Sailing Championship in San Francisco, the Super Bowl of intercollegiate sailing. This marked the third time in program history that SMCM has captured the Co-ed Dinghy National Championship. Yale University came in second, followed by Georgetown University.

St. Maryโs College has a long history of sailing championships. The Lady Seahawks Sailing Team won the 2007 Intercollegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) Women’s National Championship, in Norfolk, Virginia. Since 1993, the college has won 14 national sailing championships and produced more than 100 ICSA All-American sailors.ย
