Elkridge, MD – Ciena, a Maryland mobile telecommunications equipment company, has partnered with Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited (Jio), to improve 4G networks and improve bandwidth services.
Currently, Netlix holds the single largest bandwidth user across the interior Internet, accounting for over 38% of all traffic during peak evening hours. Prior to Jio’s deal with Ciena, the Indian mobile network operator struggled with bandwidth and 4G networking.
According to Mis Asia, Jio will now have access to 6500 and 5430 Packet-Optical platforms to improve their digital presence.
“With Ciena, we are not only able to provide robust scalability to offer new levels of data consumption, which is already 8 to 10 times above market levels, but also a supreme level of confidence in our network’s reliability and level of service that stands out in our marketplace,” said Jyotindra Thacker, Jio’s president.
Thanks to its growing 4G network, Jio has added more than 100 million subscribers in just 170 days, according to ETTelecom.
“In fast-growing markets like India, thereโs a pent-up demand for more bandwidth not only for personal use, but also to sustain business growth and development,” said Steve Alexander, senior vice president and CTO of Ciena to the India Times. “Jio understands the necessity in today’s digital environment to provide high-bandwidth services anytime, anywhere.”
Yahoo! Finance reports that since 5G, Internet of Things, and high quality content delivery services are rapidly redefining network requirements. Ciena is hoping to be an industry frontrunner with their Liquid Spectrum, their bandwidth program that combines innovative software with fully-instrumented flexible optics.
“With Liquid Spectrum, Ciena brings together optical hardware enhancements with an expanded Blue Planet portfolio,” said Heidi Adams, Senior Research Director of Transport Networks. “The result is a strategic framework for how network operators can evolve toward more streamlined operations and start on the path towards autonomous optical networks.”
