‘Mayberry’ Holds a Flag-Waving Parade

The Golden Beach-Patuxent Knolls Civic Association on its website refers to the community as “Mayberry.” Well, on Saturday the All-American Mayberry held an All-American 4^th of July Parade.

Flags were everywhere, emblazoned on golf carts, trucks, cars, fire engines and being waived by the politicians and average citizens.  Circuit court judge candidates Judge David Densford and Joseph Stanalonis, Republican U.S. House of Representatives candidate Del. Tony O’Donnell, and all five county commissioners participated in the parade.

The annual parade on Saturday morning was followed by fireworks at dusk over the Patuxent River.

Golden Beach is a Census Designated Place (CDP), part of the Mechanicsville post office. In 2010 its population of 3,796 was up from 2,665 in 2000.
