On Sept. 30, St. Maryโ€™s Sheriff Senior Deputy First Class B. Connelly responded to McKayโ€™s Food and Drug Store on Hollywood Road in Hollywood, for a report of a theft.ย 

Investigation revealed Christopher Bryan Cox, 24 of Leonardtown, was observed by off duty St. Maryโ€™s County Sheriffโ€™s Office Sergeant G. Johnson, placing packages of steaks in his waistband.ย  Sgt. Johnson approached Cox and identified himself and presented his credentials as a deputy sheriff.ย 

Sgt. Johnson advised Mr. Cox he was going to be detained.ย  As Sgt. Johnson and Cox walked to the front of the store, Cox moved the steaks from his waistband and threw them onto the meat departmentโ€™s refrigerators.ย  Sgt. Johnson told Cox he was under arrest and Cox pulled away from Sgt. Johnson.ย  A struggle ensued and Cox was placed on the ground by Sgt. Johnson.ย  Cox yelled, cursed and threatened Sgt. Johnsonโ€™s life which drew the attention of other customers in the store.ย 

Sdfc. Connelly arrived at McKayโ€™s to assist with the arrest.ย  Christopher Bryan Cox was charged with theft under $500, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
