At 8:33 P.M. on June 14, 2011, rescue crews were alerted for the rescue assignment on the 27000 block of Three Notch Road in Mechanicsville with one vehicle into the woods. Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department Co. 2 responded with Chief 2A, Squad 2, Rescue Engine 222, and Engine 224, Mechanicsville Volunteer Rescue Squad with Ambulance 298, Hughesville Volunteer Fire Department Co. 2 EMS with Ambulance 27, and Hollywood Volunteer Rescue Squad with Ambulance 797, 798, and 799 along with state and county law enforcement. Crews arrived on scene to find one vehicle in the median of Three Notch Road and one in the woods that was on fire with the occupant out of the vehicle. Crews assessed the situation to release unnecessary EMS units and fire crews made an aggressive attack on the vehicle fire while EMS took care of the patients. A helicopter was requested for a transport to P.G. Shock Trauma for the only patient that needed medical attention. Ambulance 797 provided patient care while awaiting the trooper and the fire apparatus on scene provided scene lighting for the police investigation and removal of the vehicle in addition to secure a landing zone for trooper 7. This incident also caused a power outage in the area where SMECO made a quick response and got the power back up shortly after their arrival. In all, fire and EMS crews worked on scene for 48 minutes.
