The St. Mary’s County Bureau of Criminal Investigations is an investigative team comprised of Detectives from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office and the Maryland State Police, Leonardtown Barrack. The unit was established on July 1, 2003 and is based in Leonardtown, Maryland.
On May 2, 2011, Elizabeth Ann Peters, age 49 of Mechanicsville, Maryland made an allegation she had observed child pornography on a computer hard drive belonging to an acquaintance. Peters provided BCI detectives with copies of the child pornography she indicated she obtained from the acquaintance’s computer.
Between May 2, 2011 and May 6, 2011, detectives continued their investigation. A computer forensic analysis conducted by the Maryland State Police Computer Crimes Division confirmed Peters had downloaded the images from the internet and placed them on the digital media in an attempt to have false charges filed against an adult male she was engaged a dispute with. Peters was arrested by BCI detectives and charged with making a false statement to police.
