Mechanicsville, MD- On Saturday, June 3, the Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department and Ladies Auxiliary officially dedicated the new 29,000-square-foot facility. The ceremonies opened with remarks from President John S. Montgomery thanking the membersย of the community, St. Mary’s County Government and several others for making the project a success.ย

Among the speakers were St. Mary’s County Delegate Matt Morgan, District 3 County Commissioner John E. O’Connor, building architects from Manns & Woodward, along with members of the Maryland State Firemen’s Association. Multiple commemorative plaques were presented to ย firehouse personnel.ย

After the presentations and remarks from members the crowd headed back to the apparatus bay to tour the facility, enjoy refreshments and food and review the recruitment displays and fire prevention materials. A bounce house was on site for the kids.ย

At approximatelyย 1:15 p.m. Father Teitjenย said a pray for the new station and members of the fire department lined up in frontย of a hose. Membersย of the firehouse along with the ladies auxiliary lifted the hose and it was uncoupled, officially dedicating the new facility.ย

After the uncoupling, the 1950 Ford Fire Truck was driven out of the house and members followed the tradition of housing the trucks by pushing them into the bay.ย

The new facility is a single-story building with approximatelyย 29,000 square feet. It contains a communication room, administrative offices, work areas, training/meeting rooms, study rooms, gym, day room/living quarters, ย a new commercial kitchen, and restrooms, along with the remodeled social hall. The apparatus bayย has 6 drive thru bays and one truck bay, an engineering room and office, cascade system, and a training tower. There is also a museum/trophy room that houses the antique 1950 Ford. The building’s design makes the station handicapped accessible and energy efficient. The building provides the needed room to house their apparatus and allows them to operate to meet the community’s growth.ย
