In a recent interview with Gubernatorial candidate, Republican Brian Murphy on Baynet Radio and with TheBAYNET.com, Murphy indicated that he intends to run an honest, transparent, and principled campaign.

The candidateโ€™s top priority for Marylanders is the economy. โ€œMaryland’s high taxes, deficit spending, and anti-business environment have already destroyed hundreds of thousands of jobs. Maryland is a great place to live, but we need to start making it a great place to do business,โ€ said Murphy.

He stated that every point in Maryland is 50 miles from Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington, DC, Delaware, or West Virginia. โ€œWe must not take Maryland jobs for granted. Our tax policies must compete with those of our neighbors. If we don’t compete, Maryland jobs will continue to leave.โ€

Murphy believes that Maryland must rebuild its reputation with the business community. โ€œWe have the most talented labor pool in the nation. We deserve a Governor who will work with companies and encourage them to bring their operations here.โ€

A large part of any rebuilding effort for Maryland is balancing the budget without raising taxes. โ€œWhen you find yourself in the hole, it is time to stop digging,โ€ said Murphy. โ€œ[The effort] will take leadership and it will take discipline.โ€ Should the candidate be successful in his quest to become Marylandโ€™s Governor, he intends to lead by example, โ€œI will take a 25 percent pay cut in my first year in office, and to ask my Lieutenant Governor, and all Senior Leadership to do the same.โ€

Murphy also stated that he is for a healthcare reform that makes sense indicating that the current โ€˜all-you-can-eatโ€™ policy does nothing to cut healthcare costs and that without cutting costs, no healthcare reform will work.

The candidate has an unwavering commitment to the education of every child in Maryland, especially those who live in lower income school districts and the urban areas of Baltimore City and Prince George’s County. โ€œWhile our public schools are among the best in the nation, a great deal of work remains to be done,โ€ said Murphy. โ€œEvery dollar the government spends must be reviewed and accounted for.โ€

When asked about the environment, Murphy said that he is committed to protecting shared green spaces, mountains, farmland, coasts and wetlands,. โ€œI have heard innovative proposals from entrepreneurs on how to address the Bay’s dead zones, where oxygen levels are too low to sustain life.โ€

Murphy went on to state that he wants to work with local farmers on ways to address run-off levels, without making farming even more expensive. Murphy also thinks that there are many issues, which need to be address when dealing with the environment; from transportation to Americaโ€™s dependence on foreign oil.

Murphy supports Constellation Energy’s proposed expansion of the Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Facility. โ€œThis would create thousands of jobs, grow our economy, and build our tax base.โ€

When asked about immigration, Murphy stated, โ€œOur Federal Government refuses to secure our borders, so all Americans are less safe. Illegal immigration is against the law, it cheapens American citizenship and it makes police officers’ jobs more difficult.โ€

The pro-life candidate is also committed to standing firm for the sanctity of life. He opposes embryonic stem cell research, and he supports legislation, which gives pregnant Marylanders the best
