In a recent interview on Baynet Radio and with TheBAYNET.com, Charles County Resident and Democratic candidate for Sheriff, Dave Williams, 50, discussed his campaign and why he decided to run for office in this yearโ€™s election.

According to Williams, โ€œI am running because I am not satisfied with current direction of the agency.โ€ The experienced law enforcement officer (ret.) explained that when there are sworn officers fixing computers instead of out on the street doing what they are trained for, it makes no sense.

Williams was raised in Bryans Road where he graduated from Lackey High School in 1976 and immediately accepted a position with the FBI where he was trained as a finger print examiner. He began his law enforcement career with the Charles County Sheriff’s Office in 1980 and married his high school sweetheart, Tina Willis, in 1981. After 25 years service he retired in 2005 as a decorated officer with the rank of Captain.

During his tenure with the Charles County Sheriffโ€™s Office, Williams began his tenure as a patrol officer, quickly moving up the ranks to detective and narcotics detective, investigating all types of crimes from drug investigations, burglary and homicide and successfully testifying hundreds of ย times in state and federal courts.

Williams held positions as Detective Sergeant in charge of the Vice/Narcotics Section, ย Patrol Sergeant, Assistant Division Commander of the Criminal Investigations Division and Commander of the Southern Maryland Narcoticโ€™s Task Force. He also commanded the Internal Affairs Section, Office of Professional Responsibility, Patrol Division, and the Criminal Investigation Division.ย
Williams is a graduate of the 193rd Session of the prestigious FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.

โ€œI am committed to the prevention of crime and the protection of life and property; the preservation of peace, order, and safety; the enforcement of laws and the safeguarding of the citizens,โ€ said Williams.

As Sheriff, should he be successful Williams indicated that he would nurture public trust by holding all members of the Agency to the highest standards of professionalism, performance and ethics.

The candidate also understands that in the current environment of tight finances, that the Sheriff has a tough job controlling costs and administering public safety services to Charles County residents. โ€œI will carefully and judiciously manage the financial resources entrusted to the CCSO and will focus those resources toward efficiently achieving the goals of the agency.โ€

Williams also pledged to increase the number of officers on the street, explaining, โ€œBy using trained officers that are currently performing non-law enforcement duties such as managing the fleet and in IT, we can get more presence where it is needed, in the neighborhoods where crime is committed.โ€

Williams has a pledge to the rank and file sworn officers he shared:
