Republican candidate for State Delegate in District 28, Mike Phillips recently visited with TheBAYNET.com and Baynet Radio to tell readers and listeners why he was running for office to fill the seat being vacated by retiring Murray Levy.
โI am running because the State of Maryland needs representation for our residents,โ said Phillips. โAs a 44 year old husband and father of two children, my family is an average Maryland family of four. Due to the recession we are currently experiencing and the fact that Maryland Citizens are living in the fourth highest taxed state in the U.S., my family does what every family does in difficult financial times,โ said Phillips.
โWe tighten our family budget and make sound financial decisions, cut back on dining out, traveling, and vacations, carefully shop according to needs versus wants and communicate with each other. This is what is not being done by the Local, State and Federal Governments,โ he continued.
The candidate stated that the Democratic-led legislature has continued to spend without reason and refuses to make expense cuts, โInstead of creating a budget beginning with Income, they begin with a wish list and tax us for the shortfall,โ emphasized Phillips.
Phillips feels that those in office have failed to represent the people who elected them and that unless something changes, they will ultimately lead the state into bankruptcy. โSome of our Charles County Representatives donโt even bother to show up for work. While our state continues to sink lower into an economic decline, our present Administration and its Liberal delegates choose to make careless decisions.โ
When asked what his plans were to correct the situation, Phillips stated, โEvery Maryland family should be able to decide how their family funds are to be spent versus their state government spending it for them.โ
He outlined his goals saying that he would work tirelessly to ensure each tax dollar spent is spent wisely. โI will ask the hard questions in Annapolis, hold other legislators in Annapolis accountable, as well as make myself accountable to those I represent.โ
If elected, Philips stated that he would lead the effort to cut taxes and spending as a true representative of his constituents. โElected officials need to not just hear the people that elected them, but they need to listen to what they are saying and allow more residents to have a say in how their government works.โ
Phillips encourages people in his district to contact him directly throughout the campaign process. To learn more about his position on the issues, visit his Web site, www.mikeforcharlescounty.com. Those interested may call him directly at (310) 848-7518 or email him at mike4delegate@gmail.com.
