The following is a reprint of a column Mike Gross wrote for The Bay Net from the St. Mary’s County Fair on Sept. 28, 2005.

Hi everyone.ย I’m Crabbie Cakes, or you can call me CC.
I’mย the mascot for TheBayNet.com and over the last weekend that entailedย hanging out and meeting new people at St. Mary’s County fair.ย The weather was unseasonably warm for late September, and I got a little hot under the shell at times. However, I did have lots of funย and a personal escort –ย a Miss Teen Maryland contestant, no less!
Along the way I met some great people and some strange people (strange even from a crab).ย I was pretty fortunate that the ladies weren’t shy, and neither were most of the whipper-snappers.ย I think the claws scared away a few young ‘uns, but not many.
Some of the people I met were dressed up as ninjas, punk rockers, and a few were young GI’s.ย I had a little run-in with a Golden Retriever who practically declawed me by The BayNet booth (take a look in the photo gallery to spot the rascal in action)ย – I suspect he was jealous of all the attention I was getting.ย
I escaped with both claws intact, and laterย in the evening I ventured to the rides.ย One of the first rides I went on twirled you around in a little car.ย It was a littleย too tame for this crabย so I decided to shout to the conductor “Is that allย you have, Carne?”ย He reacted by pushing down the throttle lever and saying, “Do you want anymore, Crab?”ย After that, I decided that it was time to go to the beer stand and mingle a little bit.ย Talk about a fun crowd, but the budweiser ran out and people were getting ugly so my beautiful guide led me elsewhere.
I was getting a little hungry so we got in line for some BBQ.ย There I was approached by ravenous kids who shouted, “We are going to eat you, Crab.”ย My guide thought that was cute, I thought it was annoying, so we ate and pushed on.ย
To Be continued…ย You can see pictures of Crabbie and his new friends under the photo gallery in the MyBayNet section. If you have pictures of your own then post them, too.
