Everybody beat Mother Nature in Tuesday nightโs Firecracker 35 Super Late Model race at Potomac Speedway, but Kenny Moreland beat the whole field to score his second consecutive Potomac Speedway feature win.ย It was the first race at Potomac Speedway after weeks of being rained out.
ย
โIt feels pretty good to come out here and defend the last race win,โ Moreland said.ย โIt means a lot, especially on the Fourth of July.ย Weโre coming along really well here about mid-season.ย Weโre getting better.ย The more tracks we hit, the more we learn about the car.ย Iโm confident about the rest of the season.โ
ย
Moreland passed Dale Hollidge in the closing stages and held Hollidge off in a one lap Green/Checkered shootout to the finish.ย Hollidge led much of the mid-section of the race after pole sitter David Williams fell off the pace.ย Hollidge finished second in the 35 lap race.
ย
โWe had some plug in our tires,โ Hollidge said.ย โOur tires got a little too hot.ย The longer runs definitely hurt us.ย We improved here the last couple weeks.ย Weโve changed some things on the car and weโre getting better.ย Weโd like to win, as long as the track conditions remain the same, weโll take it home and try a few more things.ย We made a couple mistakes tonight but thatโs the way it goes.โ
ย
Jimmy Randall won in the first Hobbystock feature.ย The second Hobbystock race was postponed due to rain and will have to be made up at a later date.ย Mike Latham dominated in the Street Stock feature.ย Ed Pope, Jr. won the rain shortened Strictly Stock feature.
ย
The warm weather and threat of rain did not deter anyone from going to the race.ย Thousands showed up to the race, which featured a spectacular fireworks show. ย The rain did postpone the Hobbystock feature as, shortly past halfway in the Strictly Stock race, the sky opened up.ย The last two races at Potomac Speedway were rained out.
