(May 10, 2017) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) is resurfacing two miles of southbound MD 295 (Baltimore Washington Parkway) between Winterson Road and Hanover Road in Anne Arundel County. This $2 million resurfacing project will be complete late-summer, weather permitting.
“The pavement on this section of MD 295 needs to be resurfaced to improve the ride quality for the thousands of motorists who travel it each day,” said SHA Acting District 5 Engineer Corren Johnson. “Crews will work at night to reduce construction-related congestion and MDOT SHA recommends that motorists consider using I-95 or US 1 as alternate routes. We ask that motorists slow down and stay alert through the work zone.”
SHA’s contractor, P. Flanigan & Sons, Inc. of Baltimore, will patch, grind (remove the top layer of asphalt), resurface and restripe 2.1 miles of southbound MD 295. Other work on the project includes:
• Upgrading and replacing guardrail;
• Repairing, cleaning and upgrading existing storm water management inlets and pipes; and
• Road way slope repair and sediment control.
Crews will work Sundays through Thursdays between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. Motorists should expect a single lane closures through the work zone. Last resurfaced in 1997, this section of MD 295 has an average traffic volume of 101,300 vehicles daily and is a primary route to BWI Thurgood Marshall International Airport.
