Crash in Lexington Park MD Nov. 9 2017

Press Release – On November 9, 2017, at approximately 6:32 PM, deputies from the St. Maryโ€™s County Sheriffโ€™s Office responded to the area of Three Notch Road and Kessler Way, in Lexington Park, for the report of a serious motor vehicle collision.ย  Based on the severity of injuries, a request for the Collision Reconstruction Unit was made.

Preliminary investigation determined a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500, operated by Robert McCarson, age 30, of Ridge,ย  was traveling southbound on Three Notch Road when it struck the rear of a 2005 Honda Pilot, operated by Michael Tapia, age 48, of Beaver Creek, Ohio.ย  The Honda proceeded across the centerline and left the roadway entering the wood line, striking several trees.ย  Both McCarson, and Tapia were transported by Maryland State Police Helicopter to an area trauma center.ย  A female passenger in McCarsonโ€™s vehicle was taken by ambulance to MedStar St. Maryโ€™s Hospital, and two minor children were flown to Childrenโ€™s Hospital for precautionary reasons.ย 

At this time, all involved parties are in stable condition or have been released from the hospital. At this time speed appears to be a contributing factor in the collision.ย  Anyone who may have witnessed the collision, and has not provided a statement, is asked to contact Cpl. Lexington Park, MD –ย  ย On Nov. 9,ย ย A motor vehicle crash on Three Notch Road in the area of Florence Way was reported by St. Mary’s authorities at 6:40 p.m. Three vehicles were involved. Initially, there were reports of multiple entrapments. Two helicopters were dispatched to the scene. A total of six patients were transported from the scene, four of who were airlifted. Police are investigating the crash and a report is pending.
