Solomons, MD ย – Saturday, Sept. 5 proved to be an ideal day for flying kites. The skies were clear and it was windy. The annual Solomons Kite Day was held in the field across the street from Calvert Marine Museum (CMM).

In addition to CMM, the day of kite-flying was presented by Wings Over Washington (WOW) Kite Club, one of the top kite clubs on the East Coast.

Attendees could bring their own kites, make a kite at CMM or purchase one for $5.

The kite flying event was part of CMMโ€™s Labor Day Weekend activity. On Friday, Sept. 4 First Free Friday was held during the late afternoon and early evening. The Friday event was highlighted by a performance by The Navy Band Commodores, a group of jazz musicians serving in the U.S. Navy. Free cruises on the Wm. B. Tennison were also offered to the public.
