The Maryland State Police and the Drug Enforcement Administration are partnering to ask citizens to dispose of any unwanted prescription drugs during National Drug Take-Back Day on September 27, 2014 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Maryland State Police, Leonardtown Barrack.
State Police Barracks throughout Maryland will be participating in the National Drug Take-Back Day. Each Barrack will act as a collection station in giving citizens an opportunity to dispose of all unwanted and unused prescription drugs. The National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day provides a safe, convenient and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications.
Second only to marijuana, prescription drugs are the most commonly used drug in the country. According to the Drug Enforcement Administration, the majority of teenagers that abuse prescription drugs are finding an unlimited supply in their family’s medicine cabinet.
Locally during the last initiative in April of 2014, Troopers collected over 1800 pounds of prescription drugs. Nationally 780,000 pounds of prescription medications were collected from citizens. When added to the collections from previous Take-Bake events, more than 4.1 million pounds of prescription medications have been removed from circulation and properly disposed of.

The Maryland State Police Prince Frederick Barrack is participating in the National Drug Take Back Initiative. To date the Prince Frederick Barrack has destroyed over 700 pounds of prescription drugs dropped off by Calvert County Residents. “Most abused drugs come from family and friends. You could be a drug dealer and not even know it.” Let’s end the abuse!
The drop box is located outside the barrack and can be accessed for drop-off 24/7.
The Maryland State Police Prince Frederick Barrack is the depot for The Maryland Food Bank. Food items can be dropped off at the Prince Frederick Barrack 24/7. The items most needed are canned goods to include: soup, canned meats, vegetables and dry goods like rice, and pasta. Please help us feed those less fortunate in Maryland.
